|Tea towels, traditionally made from linen, cotton or a combination of both, date back to 18th-century England and were a favorite accessory of upper-class aristocracy. Back then, these towels were used to keep teapots warm (hence their name), dry delicate porcelain and cover baked goods during tea ceremonies. During this period, women began using tea towels to practice embroidery, often gifting friends and family with towels that featured flowers, initials or other designs. With the arrival of the Industrial Revolution and mass production in the 19th century, tea towels were no longer symbols of luxury and wealth, but instead became staples in the drawers of everyday people. Today, tea towels have evolved to become not just a helpful kitchen tool, but also an important decoration in the kitchen.
