How To Choose A Napkin As A Host

In life, it is often inevitable to entertain guests. In order to make the banquet more formal and elaborate, the use of napkins is essential. Choosing a suitable napkin is not only a reflection of the owner's knowledge and taste, but also adds interest to the table.

1. Color and Design

Napkins in formal dinners should match the color of the tablecloth, usually white or ivory. Napkins usually also have some simple patterns on them. Different colored napkins and patterns can add interest to the dining table. The pattern design on the napkin should follow the principle of harmonious and consistent proportions.

2. Size

The size of the napkin depends on the occasion in which it is used:

Formal banquet, multi-course - large napkin, 142-168 cm²;

Buffets - medium to large napkins, 116-155 cm² or 30 x 56 cm;

Informal dinners - medium napkins, 116-129 cm²;

Lunch - smaller napkins, 90-103 cm²;

Tea - small napkin, 77 cm²;

Cocktails - very small napkins, 23 x 23 cm, 10 x 15 cm or 15 x 20 cm.

3. Texture

Since napkins are primarily hygienic, napkins are often textured to absorb moisture. To maintain harmony, the texture of the napkin usually needs to match the finish of the table and cutlery. Subtle textures are best for formal occasions, and unique textures can also be used for informal occasions to add interest to the tabletop.
